This Azores drone trip was a surreal blend of cinematic landscapes, hands-on learning, and pure creative adrenaline. Every location felt like a film set waiting to be explored. I had an incredible time on the safari drone trip! Even though I brought an older drone, Johan generously lent me his for a few days, which made all the difference. I have learned so much about droning, the landscapes were stunning, the flying was thrilling, and I met some amazing people along the way.

The drone trip to Socotra was nothing short of incredible. This was perhaps the most unique and unforgettable adventure of all my travels. Socotra features some of the most diverse and breathtaking landscapes in the world, and Johan has put in the work to ensure that his tour groups can experience them in the best way possible. The Traveling Socotra team was the most hospitable of any tour company I have ever experienced. Not only did we capture otherworldly landscapes, but we also slept comfortably under the stars, bonded with locals, and learned invaluable drone photography (and videography) lessons from an expert willing to spill all his secrets.

The villa and the Italian chef were absolutely perfect and allowed a well deserved rest between excursions!

The trip was very well organized. We had long days with a great mix of drone flying, workshops, relaxation time, and good food. Every evening ended with an excellent dinner. I had the most AMAZING time on Johan’s Azores trip. I very very rarely fly my drone due to not feeling confident. By the end of the trip I was so much more confident in my abilities. Before, I wouldn’t fly if I felt even a hint of wind and now I’m happy putting it up in wind and rain to get the right picture!

Before the workshop I didn’t really know how to get the most out of my drone. From day one, I felt truly welcomed. Johan has a calm, clear, and encouraging way of teaching that gave me confidence right away. During the trip I did things I never thought I’d be capable of … I truly stepped out of my comfort zone and grew so much, both technically and personally. São Miguel is a magical island, and seeing it from above was absolutely unforgettable. The villa we stayed in was beautiful and cozy and every meal prepared by the private chef was special. I came into this trip basically a total beginner — barely knew how to calibrate my drone, let alone shoot cinematic footage. But Johan’s way of teaching made everything click without ever feeling overwhelming. From the very first flight, I felt supported, encouraged, and honestly, just hyped to learn. Every day was a new chance to grow in confidence and creativity. I never felt judged for being a newbie — just constantly uplifted by the group and by Johan’s super practical tips.

As a complete beginner, my experience with flying drones has been incredibly rewarding and so much fun! The initial learning curve was steep, but with practice, I quickly gained confidence. Capturing stunning aerial views and exploring new perspectives was exhilarating.

The trip was a truly memorable experience, even though the weather didn’t always cooperate. The islands’ dramatic landscapes were absolutely stunning and offered incredible opportunities for aerial photography. Flying the drone over such raw and unspoiled beauty felt surreal.
Our villa also made the downtime very enjoyable. Spacious, stylish, and perfectly situated with sweeping views of the coastline. Each meal by the private chef was an experience in itself – beautifully crafted, locally inspired, and full of flavor.
The Azores left a lasting impression, and I’m already dreaming of returning and getting more footage and seeing other islands too. 

This is my second time on a drone trip with Johan and it won’t be my last. My favorite parts are the personalized coaching, which really ups my drone game, and the daily editing and feedback sessions. The sessions really help improve my composition and editing skills. And it is always inspiring to see what other people shoot. The villa and food were amazing as well.

I had to postpone my trip by a year due to health issues, but this drone workshop was definitely worth the wait! Johan’s expert guidance while flying in all sorts of challenging scenarios really helped boost my confidence. It’s difficult to put into words how incredible this trip was – from the locations to the luxury tents, the team and the company. I knew Socotra would be amazing, but Johan went above and beyond all my expectations. Every location we camped and droned at was truly out of this world. From the beach, to the desert, to the forest and the lagoon – it’s hard to pick a favourite. The drone shots I captured speak for themselves and I lost count of the number of Dolphins we saw!

The Malta drone trip was amazing in all ways. The coaching of Johan gives you so much confidence flying and other skills, like looking differently to compositions, hand catching and landing, flying in the wind or from a boat, … Johan showed us a lot of nice spots to fly and the chef spoiled us with a lot of nice Maltese food. We had so much fun in this group, with people from all over the world, they became really friends for life!!

Johan’s experience in Mauritius made the trip incredibly smooth as he knew exactly where to go for the best shots. The stunning accommodation overlooking the bay and the opportunity to drone whales, dolphins, and landscapes made it unforgettable. Overall, it was everything I hoped for, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great drone adventure.

I joined Johan for this very exciting drone adventure of capturing animals in a nature reserve taking off from a safari vehicle. Although I have been flying drones for more than 5 years Johan – who is exceptionally skilled – taught me so much and encouraged me greatly. My learning curve grew exponentially. I had a wonderful trip! Flying drones to photograph & video different wildlife in their environment was amazing. Even the weather was way better than I anticipated! Our safari guide was very good and went above and beyond explaining various wildlife. The rooms in the lodge were beautiful with a scenic view on the waterhole, where various animals would pass through. In addition, the staff was very humble and the chef prepared some really delicious meals. Definitely a great experience 👌

This is my third trip with Johan and it was quite special. I’ve been on many safaris and this trip is truly a unique opportunity to photograph wildlife with the drone. Unlike most of the national parks, we had the whole reserve to ourselves. I was super excited to photograph giraffes, elephants and zebras from an aerial perspective. It is definitely a unique perspective.
 
As usual, Johan gave us pointers on flying and shooting as well as feedback on our photos and videos. The food was delicious, and it’s always enjoyable to be with like minded people. I hope to do it again next year!

Johan is a very chill, approachable guy. He passes on his knowledge and expertise, but also wants to make sure you have some moments to just enjoy yourself. We had quite some good laughs, together with the group. We visited a lot of cool places, captured the beauty of the island Gozo, and even went on a very chill boat trip. Johan’s drone trip is really a mix of having fun, learning, exploring, getting up early, and enjoying the beauty of the world around us.

This drone trip exceeded all my sky-high expectations. What an amazing experience this is. A week full of impressive landscapes, spectacular drone shoots and above all learning and sharing knowledge. And not unimportant, you start the week with a group that is completely unknown to you, but you end the week as friends with whom you shared this incredible adventure.
 
I have known Johan for years now, but had never met him in person. He has been kind of a teacher/mentor for me in recent years. During this trip I have still learned many new things from him. So it is certainly not the last time for me that I join him on one of his drone trips.

The safari drone adventure really interested me. I dislike zoos and this safari allowed me to drone animals in their habitat. And I survived the trip with all of my limbs 😁 The accommodation was well above my expectations, with 3 exceptional meals a day. I learned a safari will teach you patience, for the animals are not waiting for you; distinguishing between old and new tracks and how to approach animals in the wild. The bonus was to reunite with previously met Adventurers. This was a wonderful bucket list experience!

Even after six years of flying drones, Johan’s drone trip offered me fresh perspectives that genuinely helped me grow as a pilot. One thing I didn’t expect — but really appreciated — was the valuable input on how to approach FPV shots more creatively and with better flow. Johan’s feedback on flight planning, shot composition, and storytelling pushed me to rethink how I fly and capture scenes.

My friends wanted to give me a great gift for my birthday! I’ve been passionate about drone photography for several years. So they gave me this trip to the Azores. It was a bull’s-eye! I learned a lot and gained self-confidence in flying, composition and photo editing. The trip itself was a great adventure, filled to the brim with interesting places. It made me re-discovered the Azores again.
Great organization, good coaching and workshops, lots of new tricks for both standard and FPV drones. I wholeheartedly recommend this well-mannered Belgian. Johan knows how to use drones at the higher level.

One of the most refreshing aspects to this trip was not only the adventure aspect of traveling an otherworldly country like Iceland, but also the fun of meeting up with other drone and photography enthusiasts. If you drone, you probably drone alone and Johan makes these trip an amazing bonding experience in which people from diverse backgrounds can come together on a shared interests and learn about not only drone photography, but our common human condition and our differences as well. Very interesting. I plan on making these trips with Johan a thing I do at least once a year as I feel I grew a lot from this experience. 10/10!

I’ve been doing drone photography for a couple years, but I never had the community to learn and share my experience with. When I booked this drone trip I was a little nervous, because my English isn’t super fluent and I was afraid I would miss a lot of what would be explained. Instead Johan and the whole group made me feel really at ease, giving me an experience that I will always carry in my heart. The weather was not always favorable, but this helped improve my confidence in extreme situations. I took some very nice photos and I’m sure I improved my awareness a lot. Would I do it again? Certainly! 💪

Having already done the Iceland drone trip, I immediately started planning the next one. I fly FPV and regular drones, so off the Azores I went. And what a time was had! Everything was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. From the luxury villa, to the private chef and the meticulously planned drone shoots and hikes, I can’t recommend these trips more. And the pricing is so incredibly reasonable for the value that you receive. I assure you that you will grow your drone and photography/videography skills. And you will have a great time with a group of strangers, that quickly turn into friends you’ve shared an incredible experience with.
