Drone photo trips with Johan

This was my 6th adventure with Johan, so I may be bias. I actually enjoyed this one the most.

It had the least amount of frills, but an environment was created to make me feel the most comfortable.  Our days were filled with wonderful places to visit and drone. The food provided never left me looking for more. The staff was very accommodating and thoughtful in providing for our needs.

I just completed this adventure and already looking forward to my return next year 💪

This is my 3rd drone trip with Johan and I can say is WOWZERS. What an epic experience. From arriving to our houseboat in Coron to our last breakfast on the beach in Siargao, everything was planned and organized perfectly. Having Merr as a co host was a special treat. Between her and Johan’s different coaching styles I feel like my drone skills got leveled up in some of the most beautiful locations I’ve ever droned in.
 
Johan set the bar high with Iceland and the Azores, but he just blew it even higher with his Philippines trip 🤯

Johan is a very chill, approachable guy. He passes on his knowledge and expertise, but also wants to make sure you have some moments to just enjoy yourself. We had quite some good laughs, together with the group. We visited a lot of cool places, captured the beauty of the island Gozo, and even went on a very chill boat trip. Johan’s drone trip is really a mix of having fun, learning, exploring, getting up early, and enjoying the beauty of the world around us.
I can highly recommend it and I’m very glad I can finally check it off my bucket list. Thanks again Johan!

The trip was a truly memorable experience, even though the weather didn’t always cooperate. The islands’ dramatic landscapes were absolutely stunning and offered incredible opportunities for aerial photography. Flying the drone over such raw and unspoiled beauty felt surreal.
Our villa also made the downtime very enjoyable. Spacious, stylish, and perfectly situated with sweeping views of the coastline. Each meal by the private chef was an experience in itself – beautifully crafted, locally inspired, and full of flavor.
The Azores left a lasting impression, and I’m already dreaming of returning and getting more footage and seeing other islands too. 

This was my 2nd trip with Johan, and once again it was such an awesome experience. Well organized, luxurious accommodation and absolutely stunning locations. A lot of thought went into choosing the photo spots, with a lot of great chances to fly. Johan and Merr were both amazing throughout the trip and shared so many useful tips and insights. It was really nice to learn from two different perspectives, both super helpful and encouraging. Staying on the houseboats in Coron was just unreal. The whole trip was a perfect mix of epic drone shooting, relaxing, and having fun with a great group of people. I got some amazing shots, made new friends, and had an absolute blast 😍

This is my third trip with Johan and it was quite special. I’ve been on many safaris and this trip is truly a unique opportunity to photograph wildlife with the drone. Unlike most of the national parks, we had the whole reserve to ourselves. I was super excited to photograph giraffes, elephants and zebras from an aerial perspective. It is definitely a unique perspective.
 
As usual, Johan gave us pointers on flying and shooting as well as feedback on our photos and videos. The food was delicious, and it’s always enjoyable to be with like minded people. I hope to do it again next year!

My 3rd workshop with Johan and once again it was a truly special experience. The Philippines trip felt like a real adventure. Johan takes you to lesser-known places, which turn out to be incredibly beautiful and inspiring. Well organized, many interesting locations and plenty of opportunities to fly. You not only gain more confidence in flying, but also get tips on composition, shot planning, and the right drone settings for a more relaxed flying experience. Johan and Merr were always available and supported everyone throughout the trip. Beyond the flying itself, we spent a lot of time together, shared ideas, had good conversations, and enjoyed excellent food along the way.

I came into this trip basically a total beginner — barely knew how to calibrate my drone, let alone shoot cinematic footage. But Johan’s way of teaching made everything click without ever feeling overwhelming. From the very first flight, I felt supported, encouraged, and honestly, just hyped to learn. Every day was a new chance to grow in confidence and creativity. I never felt judged for being a newbie — just constantly uplifted by the group and by Johan’s super practical tips.

Before the workshop I didn’t really know how to get the most out of my drone. From day one, I felt truly welcomed. Johan has a calm, clear, and encouraging way of teaching that gave me confidence right away. During the trip I did things I never thought I’d be capable of … I truly stepped out of my comfort zone and grew so much, both technically and personally. São Miguel is a magical island, and seeing it from above was absolutely unforgettable. The villa we stayed in was beautiful and cozy and every meal prepared by the private chef was special. I returned home with photos I’m proud of, new friendships, and a huge desire to keep exploring the world with my drone. It’s an experience I 100% recommend. Thank you, Johan, for everything!

This trip completely blew me away. The Azores are absolutely stunning for drone shots, the villa and the food were amazing, and our group instantly connected over the same passion. We shared tips, reviewed footage, and learned so much.
Johan is incredible – he always found the perfect spot to fly, even in unpredictable weather, and helped us safely push our limits. His flying and editing tips made things I’d struggled with finally make sense. Flying in rain and heavy wind took me way out of my comfort zone and I loved it! Reprising everything I learned from Johan in the first trip a few years ago and then some more, I got so much value-add from the magical land of Socotra. Johan offers an irresistible African safari for drone enthusiasts.  I have been on many safaris, but this trip allowed me to drone the wildlife from a bird’s eye view.  His coaching at the lodge and in the field was great and it gave me confidence to drone from any platform or vehicle too.

Even with some unpredictable weather, Johan’s calm and passionate coaching helped me improve my flying and confidence in all kinds of conditions, even when filming! The itinerary struck a great balance between drone sessions and unique local adventures — like electric mountain biking, whale watching, and soaking in thermal baths. Johan organised a fantastic 5-day trip in South Africa that allowed me to capture stunning wildlife visuals with my drone. Every detail – from the scenic locations to the perfect light – was thoughtfully planned. The food and accommodation were excellent too.

This drone trip exceeded all my sky-high expectations. What an amazing experience this is. A week full of impressive landscapes, spectacular drone shoots and above all learning and sharing knowledge. And not unimportant, you start the week with a group that is completely unknown to you, but you end the week as friends with whom you shared this incredible adventure.
 
I have known Johan for years now, but had never met him in person. He has been kind of a teacher/mentor for me in recent years. During this trip I have still learned many new things from him. So it is certainly not the last time for me that I join him on one of his drone trips.

Before the workshop, my drone spent most of its life in its case, and now I’m having a lot of fun discovering the world from above with it. The workshop was perfectly organized! We had so many exciting adventures, and I have been to places I would never have visited when I had traveled alone.

It’s difficult to put into words how incredible this trip was – from the locations to the luxury tents, the team and the company. I knew Socotra would be amazing, but Johan went above and beyond all my expectations. Every location we camped and droned at was truly out of this world. From the beach, to the desert, to the forest and the lagoon – it’s hard to pick a favourite.

This is my second time on a drone trip with Johan and it won’t be my last. My favorite parts are the personalized coaching, which really ups my drone game, and the daily editing and feedback sessions. The sessions really help improve my composition and editing skills. And it is always inspiring to see what other people shoot. The villa and food were amazing as well.

This trip exceeded my expectations in every possible way! The villa was luxurious, offering the best view and location on the island – truly spectacular. Johan’s knowledge and experience are remarkable, and he shares them generously throughout the trip. It’s absolutely worth it, not only because you spend time with people who share your passion for droning, but also because Johan takes you to the most incredible spots you’d never discover on your own. Because of the small number of participants, the experience and the coaching felt almost individual, creating a close and friendly group atmosphere. The trip is quite intense, packed with amazing sessions and locations, so I highly recommend staying a few extra nights to relax afterwards. Johan is a fantastic guide and teacher. My learning curve on flying drones have increased leaps and bounds. I was able to take dolphins from the air and I was taking off from the sailing catamaran and landing back on the boat. Those were some serious highlights. The shooting locations were incredible as well!

An extraordinary one-week drone photography workshop in Socotra that felt far more like a once-in-a-lifetime expedition than a conventional course. There were six participants moving between four stunning luxury campsites, including a magical night in the Dragon Blood Tree forest. 
Although I was the only person who hadn’t previously attended a workshop with Johan, the overall experience were exceptional. Johan created a true sense of adventure with hikes through dramatic landscapes, swims in hidden canyons, a boat trip to a pristine beach with crystal-clear azure water, dolphin sightings, sunrise climbs on sand dunes, and unforgettable snorkelling. Supported by an outstanding local crew of cooks, camp teams, and expert 4×4 drivers who were both professional and great fun. The trip was immersive, inspiring, and absolutely unforgettable.

My trip to Socotra was an exceptional experience in every way! As my first drone expedition with Johan, it provided an incredible opportunity to hone my skills in a truly breathtaking landscape. I left feeling not only more confident in my flying abilities, but also with a deeper appreciation for the world and how I capture it from above.

One of the most refreshing aspects to this trip was not only the adventure aspect of traveling an otherworldly country like Iceland, but also the fun of meeting up with other drone and photography enthusiasts. If you drone, you probably drone alone and Johan makes these trip an amazing bonding experience in which people from diverse backgrounds can come together on a shared interests and learn about not only drone photography, but our common human condition and our differences as well. The drone trip to Socotra was nothing short of incredible. This was perhaps the most unique and unforgettable adventure of all my travels.
Socotra features some of the most diverse and breathtaking landscapes in the world, and Johan has put in the work to ensure that his tour groups can experience them in the best way possible. The Traveling Socotra team was the most hospitable of any tour company I have ever experienced. Not only did we capture otherworldly landscapes, but we also slept comfortably under the stars, bonded with locals, and learned invaluable drone photography (and videography) lessons from an expert willing to spill all his secrets.

I had a fantastic week with Johan and the group. Its a perfect trip for animal lovers with plenty of incredible sights, but with a whole new perspective! If you’re looking for a more slow-pace/relaxing trip, with plenty of fantastic animal sightings (not just from the game viewer but from the lodge as well!) then this is definitely the trip to go on.

I joined Johan for this very exciting drone adventure of capturing animals in a nature reserve taking off from a safari vehicle. Although I have been flying drones for more than 5 years Johan – who is exceptionally skilled – taught me so much and encouraged me greatly. My learning curve grew exponentially. The comradeship and food was great as well.

Having already done the Iceland drone trip, I immediately started planning the next one. I fly FPV and regular drones, so off the Azores I went. And what a time was had! Everything was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. From the luxury villa, to the private chef and the meticulously planned drone shoots and hikes, I can’t recommend these trips more. And the pricing is so incredibly reasonable for the value that you receive. I assure you that you will grow your drone and photography/videography skills. And you will have a great time with a group of strangers, that quickly turn into friends you’ve shared an incredible experience with.

An African safari was on my bucket list and to be able to fly my drone was the reason to book with Johan. What an exciting adventure! And sharing the passion of flying drones with 5 other great like-minded people was so enjoyable. Johan was the perfect organiser and host, the game reserve, accommodation and food was first class. There were 2 daily drives and though tracking the animals was not always easy, it was so exciting to find them and film them from above. The daily workshops where we discussed how to set up our drones and edit our photos/videos, personally gave me the knowledge and confidence to fly my drone to the next level. I really enjoyed my time in the Philippines. I have traveled with Johan on many adventures, this by far was one of the most intriguing. The coordinating for all the moving parts by Merr was commendable. I really loved the two locations, neither one more than the other, however I could have stayed on the house boat the entire time. Many locations we had to ourselves, and when not, if necessary we found other locations to launch from. I have done 7 adventures with Johan, and this is easily one I will repeat.

This was my 2nd trip with Johan and it definitely delivered! The first accommodation was literally in the lagoon, which made it perfect for sunrise drone shots and spontaneous snorkeling sessions.

I joined the drone photography trip to Mauritius as a complete beginner, and by the very first day I had already learned how to confidently fly my drone — even over the ocean. Johan was incredible at helping me build confidence and guiding us through some truly amazing shooting locations. The week was packed with variety and inspiration, and the villa’s breathtaking view made it all even more special.
I especially appreciated how much I learned, not only about flying and composition, but also about the technical setup and post-production process. I’d highly encourage anyone to join a trip like this — it’s the perfect balance of learning, adventure, and creative growth.

This was my second trip with Johan, and it was incredible. Iceland is a dream for drone shots, and exploring the highlands: crossing rivers and reaching remote, off-the-map spots made it a true adventure.
I flew in some of the wildest conditions I’ve ever faced: heavy rain and 90 km/h wind gusts. It’s a lot easier to push your limits when someone like Johan is by your side: calm, experienced, and ready to help if things go sideways. I left the trip feeling way more confident flying in any conditions I might face in future 🙌🏼

I’ve been doing drone photography for a couple years, but I never had the community to learn and share my experience with. I stumbled on Johan’s Drone Adventure site and knew it was time to push myself for something more. This trip genuinely exceeded my expectations, in the best way.
